a personal view of one of most talent writers of all time, that help us to refine our own way in the most important issue in everyone's life, the relationship or not with the word of God and Christ the son who bring us the grace , faith y the spirit(the power) to complete the work in our life.
It renewed my faith in Jesus the Son of God.
Tolstoy has some views about God, the human spirit, and living a good life that are very much different from the way most of us behave.
"All the love for truth and goodness in the heart of man, all his efforts to illuminate his spiritual life by the light of reason, are not only of slight importance, according to this doctrine; they are a temptation, an incitement to pride. Life as it is upon this earth, with all its joys and its splendors, its struggles of reason with darkness, - the life of all men that have lived before me, my own life with its inner struggles and triumphs, - all this is not the true life; it is the fallen life, a life irretrievably bad. The true life, the life without sin, is only in faith, that is, in imagination, that is, in lunacy.

Let any one break the habit contracted from infancy of believing in all this; let him look boldly at this doctrine as it is; let him endeavored to put himself in the position of a man without prejudice, educated independently of this doctrine - and then let him ask himself if this doctrine would not appear to such a man as a product of absolute insanity."

Leo Tolstoy - My Religion
Tolstoy is the best person to read if you grew up catholic or christian and have been struggling with what you should believe. As always, he is extremely logical (sometimes hard to get through some parts because he overly explains) but the points he makes are clear, smart, and valid. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a better understanding of what to believe in. I also read The Kingdom of God is Within you, which was a fantastic read as well.
Maybe I’ve enjoyed this book because it has reinforced my personal interpretation of the New Testament. It was interesting to see Leo Tolstoy’s dissection of the gospels, research the possible interpretations, and then declare his belief of the true meaning based off a logical reading of the teachings instead of a personal belief. A must read for those that declare themselves a Christian or for those wishing to understand the faith better.
I buy a lot from but I don't write reviews, however I feel moved to comment on this one. I stumbled upon Tolstoy's book The Kingdom of God is Within You and was very moved. A very significant book that influenced Ghandi etc. So I tried this one and if anything My Religion was for me even better. Tolstoy in his later religious phase is dismissed as some kind of extremist kook but this book has so many insites into life it is riviting. It is hard to imagine that a book classified as religion or perhaps philosophy could involve you so much but I had trouble putting it down. He gives such a logical and easy to understand account of what Christ was all about and what was said and what subsiquent historical developments artificially altered for personal gain...it just all seemed so right. Absolutely the very best of books and the turmoil the world finds itself in at the moment could use a large dose of Tolstoy. It is the right time for this book to resurface.
